This Just In: Paul Harris opens at Music City Centre

11 Mar

I just received this alert from the folks at the Branson Lakes Chamber of Commerce:

BRANSON, Mo. – Comedian Paul Harris has opened his 2010 season at Music City Centre where he does side-splitting comedy and great music at 8 p.m. daily except Fridays and Sundays. Harris is joined onstage this year by The Cleverly Trio, his latest creative project which has taken on a life of its own in country music and bluegrass blogs and with clips on http://www.youtube.com and http://www.myspace.com. Harris—or should we say Dr. Digger Cleverly—sings and plays guitar in The Cleverly Trio along with Junior, V.D., Miles and Otto. It’s a unique trio with five members, he says. And while they’re a bluegrass group, they do covers including music by Fergie and the Black-Eyed Peas. “A Nashville writer said, `If Earl Scruggs, Dolly Parton and Spinal Tap spawned a trio of puppies, it would be The Cleverly Trio,’” Harris says.

Harris has always seen the humor in life. As soon as he could toddle and talk, he was entertaining his family with songs and skits. By age 12, Harris was doing improv and Shakespeare in Chicago. At 16, he was the featured comedian at the White River Hoedown in Mountain View, Ark.

He moved to Branson in 1994 where he shared stages with the Texas Gold Miners and Pierce Arrow and headlined the Caravelle Theatre. After playing comedy clubs and opening for mainstream music and comedy acts, he’s got plenty of stories to tell.

“I love to make people laugh,” Harris says. “I used to ride bulls and bareback horses, but standing in front of an audience and making them gut-laugh—there’s nothing better.”
