Branson’s Black Tie tonight

19 Feb

It’s going to be a fun night in Branson. I’m in town for the Branson Chamber of Commerce’s annual Black Tie banquet. A very big deal in town, I’m told. I heard several different groups of people talking about it this morning while stuffing a cinnamon roll in my face at Panera. I hope the Black Tie folks don’t point and laugh when I walk in wearing my brown suit.

Note: I hope it’s a theme, not a dress code. Wish me luck. Most of the chamber banquets are a little stuffy, too many speakers, hours of glad-handing and backslapping… and way toooo LLLOOONNNGGGG!

Tonight’s event promises dinner, dancing, wine tasting and the opportunity to hobnob with Branson’s movers and shakers. My kinda’ party. It’s out at Chateau on the Lake, so you know it will be a swanky affair. Good digs if you can afford it. I can’t and am staying on the Strip at a $49 a night motel. Very clean, no complaints. This year is Silver Dollar City’s 50th birthday celebration and I’m told they have a really sweet surprise for the party tonight that’s sure to wow the crowd. More on SDC’s 50th later.

My Branson trips are always a busman’s holiday. I love Branson, and I love being paid to write about it. I come down in search of interesting stories for The Joplin Globe. I see shows, write about them and get to meet the entertainers. Good work in you can get. But, work it is. The Globe is expanding its entertainment coverage to include Eureka Springs, and Northwest Arkansas. We’ll have more on the happenings in Northeast Oklahoma’s casino country, and KC, Tulsa and Springfield concerts and events. I’m excited that we will also ramp up our coverage of the Mid-West’s Music City.

2010 is going to be a great year for Branson, for The Globe and for me … I hope.
